The workflow can be summarized in continuous steps:
1. Capture and Conversion (X-ray → Visible Light) When the X-rays penetrate the detected object, they first hit the scintillator layer on the top of the module. This special crystal material, such as cesium iodide, acts as an "energy converter" that instantly and efficiently converts invisible X-rays into visible light. Its microstructure effectively focuses light, laying the foundation for high-definition images.
2. Collection and Staging (Visible Light → Charge) Below the scintillator layer is a highly integrated TFT (thin-film transistor) pixel array. Each pixel cell contains a photodiode. When it receives visible light from the scintillator, it generates charges of corresponding intensity and precisely temporarily resides in the pixel cell. The amount of charge directly corresponds to the X-ray intensity of the point.
3. Reading and imaging (charge → digital signal) After the exposure, the drive circuit inside the module starts working. It acts like a precise conductor, turning on the TFT switch of each pixel line by line, releasing and reading the temporary charge signal in an orderly manner. These weak electrical signals are amplified and processed by analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) to create a complete, high-resolution digital image that is displayed in real time on a computer screen.
